Curriculum / Biography

Thais Linhares - author. Carioca, born in 1970 at Rio de Janeiro. Graduated from Senai (Technical School of Graphic Design) and National School of Fine Arts / UFRJ (graduated in arts). With a background in literature, education and human rights. Art teacher and with a master degree in communication (creative web content - still in course) at ECO-UFRJ. Was vice President of AEILIJ - Association of Writers and Illustrators of Child and Young books Literature, deputy director of DDH, the Human Rights Defenders Institute and communicator in Virus Magazine. Recent Awards: White Ravens 2016, Highly Recommended and Best Production for Young FNLIJ and Jabuti.


Professional experience:

Thais Linhares is a well know writer and illustrator for children books, also an passionate student of medieval art and its relations with the popular art of Brazilian story-tellers. She's been publishing her art since 1998. Having achieved some important prizes gave by the FNLIJ (Brazilian section of IBBY).
Thais is an usual guest at the FNLIJ Saloon of Books for Children and Young Readers, the biggest of the kind in Brazil, usually make performances of illustrations and talk to children about that kind of art.
Worked as an background artist for the public TV at Multirio's animation series "Juro que Vi".

She writes for TV animation series "Quarto do Jobi", exihibited at the public TV. 
As publisher she create the Ygarapé Books. 

Her path as an human rights activist took her to work on streets recording popular protests, following up the development of social movements and taking the role of communicator at the DDH – Human Rights Defenders Institute, a totally independent office that works with victims of human rights violations.

Many of her illustrated books was presented by the FNLIJ (Brazilian Section of IBBY) at the Bologna’s Children Books Fair, since 2001. And this years some of her works will be seen in Frankfurt Fair - 2013.


2005 – At the FLIPinha, the part of FLIP dedicated to children books, in a exposition organized by the Brazilian Association of Writes and Illustrators of Children Books (AEI-LIJ), located in Paraty/RJ, Brazil. And many other international fairs, as guest, such as FLIPorto, in Olinda-PE.
